The Salvation Army
The World Over
"Peace
I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the
world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."
Jesus Christ
(John 14:27)
First Salvation Army Soldiers
enrolled in Greece
The first ever soldiers to be enrolled since The Salvation Army
opened fire in Greece in October 07, were enrolled on Saturday 13 September
2008.
The meeting -a celebration of the opening of the work in Greece and the
enrollment of the first soldiers - was led by Captain Polis Pantelidis
who pioneers the work of the Army in Greece together with his wife Cpt
Maria Konti Galinou.
Neofytos and Anastasia told a crowd of 120 people, who
gathered for the celebration, of the way God led them to The Salvation
Army. The evening was marked by the joy shared by all those present.
In
the same meeting Nikos Ziogas was honoured with a plaque presented to him by the
Officer Commanding of Italy, Lt Colonel Massimo Paone. Lt Colonel
Roland Sewell (Assistant Chief Secretary, UK) spoke of Nikos who for
more than 15 years, together with his friend Jimmy in Australia, prayed
and believed that this day would come true. Now the Army honoured him
for his prayer and persistnace.
The London Central
Divisional Commander Ray Irving, who was present with his wife Angela
supporting the occasion, presented the 1st ever Salvation Army Greek
flag explaining what the flag symbolised.
Guest soloist
Roy Harrill from the Bristol Bedminster Corps in the UK played with
his cornet the hymn 'How Great Thou Art', introducing the crowd to a
Salvation Army music history of over 150 years. Captain Haris Giannaros
went on to give a swift overview of the Army's history.
IS
for Europe, Commissioner Hasse Kjellgren, in his message spoke of faith
in action being the way of Salvationists. 'Salvationists are activists'
he said as he challenged the audience to an active Christian way of
life.
Many people came to the front for prayer committing and re-committing themselves to Christ and His work.
